Application procedure

  • For all candidates : apply via eCandidat
  • You can find more information about the application procedure here.

Scholarships of 800€/month maximum are allocated to the best students during the three semesters of the master.

Entry requirements

The applicant students for first year of master degree must be holder of Bachelor’s degree in physics or Bachelor’s degree with major in physics (the applications of students being holder of Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or of engineering degree in mechanics with minor in physics are also considered by the recruitment committee).
The students who apply directly for the second year of master degree must be holder of a first year of master degree (or equivalent) in physics with an advanced training in computational physics or must have an excellent level in computer science.

B2 level in English (or equivalent) and practical knowledge of computers are needed.

It is recommended to the applicants to explain in the motivation letter their professional project after the master and their interests for the fields studied in the master.

Pedagogical prerequisites:

  • Computer programming (basic knowledge of coding (loops, tests,…)) and/or Numerical methods of physics (interpolation of physical functions, integration of physical equations, etc.)) ideally in Python or else in Matlab, Fortran or C.
  • Classical mechanics (theoretical knowledge about Newton’s laws, frame changes, rotations of solid body, Hamiltonian and Langragian formalism, fluid dynamics).
  • Quantum and statistical physics (theoretical knowledge about classical statistical physics (including elementary thermodynamics, thermal equilibrium distributions, entropy), quantum wave physics (including Schrödinger equation, tunneling effect, hydrogen atom), and algebraic formulation of quantum mechanics (including Dirac notations, operators associated with the harmonic oscillator and with the angular momentum)). This prerequisite can be forgotten for students having a sufficiently good level in classical mechanics and mathematics to acquire it at the beginning of the academic year.
  • Electromagnetism (theoretical knowledge about electrostatics, electromagnetic induction and Maxwell’s equations).
  • Mathematical tools of physics (linear algebra, probabilities and statistics, function and series analysis, vector field analysis, tensors).

Criteria for the selection of the applicant

  1. Suitability of the applicant’s cursus
  2. Quality of the applicant’s cursus (marks obtained during the Bachelor in the courses corresponding to the master training areas).
  3. Motivations of the applicant, especially his interests and his professional project with respect to the choice to apply in the master. If the applicant already holds another master degree, his motivations to redo a master must be explained.
  4. Internships and projects realized during the Bachelor, previous experience in programing or scientific computation.
  5. Letters of recommendation
